  • Emergency: Call 911 for immediate danger, medical emergencies, or urgent safety concerns.

Food and Meal Assistance

  • Senior Nutrition Program: Provides congregate meals at community meal sites and home-delivered meals for eligible homebound older adults. Contact VCAAA at 805-477-7300 or the Senior Nutrition Program office at 805-477-7311.
  • Local senior meal sites: Meal sites are available in communities across Ventura County, including Oxnard, Ventura, Camarillo, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Ojai, Moorpark, Port Hueneme, and Piru. Call ahead because days, times, and eligibility may vary.
  • Food Share of Ventura County: Food assistance and pop-up pantry information. Phone: 805-983-7100.

Transportation

  • VCAAA ElderHelp Transportation: May provide Dial-A-Ride tickets, fixed-route bus passes, and Medi-Rides for non-emergency medical appointments for older adults and people with disabilities with the highest level of need. Call 805-477-7300 to request information.
  • Dial-A-Ride/paratransit: Curb-to-curb service for eligible riders who cannot use fixed-route buses. Eligibility and scheduling vary by transit provider.
  • Ventura County Transportation Commission: Offers transportation guidance for seniors and links to local transit providers.

Caregiver Support

  • VCAAA Family Caregiver Support Program: Support for people caring for an adult age 60 or older, and for grandparents or relatives raising children. Services may include caregiver assessment, training, support groups, respite options, home safety devices, and referrals.

Health Insurance, Medicare, and Benefits Help

  • HICAP Medicare Counseling: Free, one-on-one Medicare counseling and education through the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program. Contact VCAAA at 805-477-7300 or 805-477-7310.
  • Aging and Disability Resource Center: Helps older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers understand long-term services and support options.
  • In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS): For eligible people who need help to remain safely at home. Contact Ventura County Human Services Agency or call 2-1-1 for referral guidance.

Safety, Elder Abuse, and Legal Help

  • Adult Protective Services (APS): Report suspected elder or dependent adult abuse, neglect, self-neglect, abandonment, or financial exploitation. 24-hour hotline: 805-654-3200. Reports are confidential; non-mandated reporters may report anonymously. In an emergency, call 911.
  • Long-Term Care Ombudsman: Advocacy and complaint support for residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other long-term care settings. Ventura County Ombudsman phone: 805-656-1986.
  • Legal assistance: Older adults may be able to access legal and financial resources through VCAAA referrals and community legal service partners.

Housing and Staying at Home

  • VCAAA referrals: Ask about home-based supports, caregiver respite, fall prevention, safety devices, and community services that help older adults remain safely at home.
  • HomeShare/shared housing: United Way of Ventura County’s housing programs may offer shared housing or landlord engagement referrals. Call 805-485-6288 for information.
  • 2-1-1 Ventura County: Call 2-1-1 for housing, utility, food, and emergency assistance referrals.

Emotional Support and Social Connection

  • Senior Support Line: For older adults who feel lonely, isolated, or need someone to talk to. Phone: 1-800-235-9980.
  • Senior centers and local recreation programs: Contact your city’s senior center or parks and recreation department for activities, classes, exercise programs, meal sites, and social events.
  • VCAAA volunteer and community programs: Ask VCAAA about volunteer opportunities, digital resources, fall prevention, and wellness programs.
